What’s new in this second edition?
I’ve added a brand-new chapter dedicated to Microsoft Teams templates, a new feature that helps with governance while also speeding up the creation of new teams, ensuring consistency across them.
The channels chapter now includes an overview of shared channels, which allow users from different organizations to collaborate without the need to switch to another tenant.
As Microsoft Teams is a global platform that can be used by anyone in any industry, independent of your working conditions, it has dedicated versions and hardware that allow frontline workers, teachers, and students to achieve more on the platform. Therefore, we have also added a chapter dedicated to industry-specific features and devices that are now available for Microsoft Teams.
Lastly, we also cover the new employee experience solution from Microsoft, Microsoft Viva, where you’ll find an overview of the four main pillars of Microsoft Viva available directly in Microsoft Teams.

What are the future advancements that you anticipate in Microsoft Teams?
Teams will become a more robust platform. It is already used by more than 200 million people worldwide and, as more and more features are added to it, it will naturally start replacing most of the applications used to accomplish day-to-day tasks at work. Eventually, Teams will be perceived more as an operating system rather than just a replacement for Skype.
With this in mind, we made sure that this book covers all the core features of Microsoft Teams and teaches you how to configure and extend the platform to achieve specific business goals. Unlike typical user guides that are focused on the end user, Hands-On Microsoft Teams covers the administration part for each feature explained in the book, making it a valuable tool for both new and existing Teams users and administrators.

What’s your favorite part of the book and why?
My favorite parts of the book are the chapters that help all users (with or without technical knowledge) to extend the Teams platform, empowering them to build custom apps for specific business needs without needing to use developer resources. The book covers most of the development methods available for Microsoft Teams, and everyone will be able to create new applications to replace manual processes or share information more seamlessly without writing code.
Readers will explore real-world scenarios from many different industries, explained with the help of step-by-step guides, and understand how to transform Microsoft Teams from the moment they start using it.
