Power outage backup Haven’t had to put it into service but once. But I do routinely run the unit to make sure it will start when needed. I only run it on propane thinking it will avoid gumming up the carburetion. When I used it during an outage, I ran my refrigerator, freezer, and a fan without problem. I tossed a line over to my neighbor but her refrigerator had a feature that drew too much power on startup. Check your product manuals. I’ve also installed a switch in my power panel so I don’t have to run lots of extension cords.

Very Well Made This Champion Power Equipment 8500-Watt Electric Start Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Inverter / Generator is the best! I have tested it on both gasoline and propane, and it runs perfectly on either. Super easy start up procedure for either fuel. It is so quiet that you can be standing right next to it and have a conversation without having to raise your voice. I can't think of anything negative about this unit at all. Using it as a back generator for our house. It is also setup to be very easy to service, including a drain hose for changing the oil. It is pretty heavy but the included wheels and large handle that folds down make it very easy to move around.

Great Generator. Generator is amazing. Quiet and powerful. Love it.shipping not so much. Bad tracking, bad communication, First delivery scheduled was a no show after I drove 2 hours to pick it up. They said wait 7 days. Next day it was delivered unannounced, no call ahead. It was dropped off outside of our gate. Drove another 2 hours each way to get it.

Great Generator! So good, we bought another one. After very careful research, and a huge amount of time spent comparing Genmax, Pulsar, Generac, Predator, Honda and a slew of others, I FINALLY decided upon and bought this Champion 8500 watt dual fuel model. From the first opening of the carton, I was impressed at the how the careful attention to packaging was addressed. From there, it was one pleasant surprise after another. In short, this unit has thus far exceeded every one of my expectations.Quality build with thoughtful consideration to the owner/user. Small things, like easy to remove side panels with twist latches, rather than having to search for the right sockets to open them time and again.. Great and thorough instructions, simple and easy to find (with identifying label) "ground wire" for removal to convert from bonded to floating neutral. Champion even has a video to walk you through the process. Important, if you are going to use this as an emergency generator for home use!Very well built frame, handles, complete array of outlets (all weather covered), great digital readouts while in operation, darn quiet! Some ideas if others are considering this unit, or other Champion Generators:Purchase a magnetic dipstick. You'll be impressed how much metal fines it collected during "break in". This is normal with any generator as it settles in.I went through three oil changes during my 5 hr break in period. This was more than Champion suggested, but three quarts of oil is a small investment for long term quality operation.I used "Royal Purple Break In Oil" for the 3/5 hr oil changes. Quality stuff.3 year warranty, as opposed to 90 days, or 1 year from other manufactures.I ordered the recommended Champion cover for the unit, and it is really tight to the point that the stitches are stressing. Just a very small observation.Flawless operation, even with various loads placed upon it.All in all....I made the correct choice!Update as of 9/10/24. I was so pleased with this Champion generator, that I bought the same one again for the guest house that we manage. As in my prior review listed above, again, no problems with unpacking, the break in procedure and operation. Both units will be used for emergencies caused by interruption of power due to weather related events (snow/ice storms, wind and wildfire protection by continued water well operation.). Very pleased.

Excellent generator This is my second Champion generator. My first one was a 7000 watt propane only model purchased over 10 years ago. It has served me well in various power outages ranging from a few hours up to a day and a half. Then came Helene here in western NC when we went 10 days without power at my house. After that, I decided to upgrade and purchased this model. First impression when unboxing was what a quality piece of hardware. Everything about this generator is well built, sturdy and QUIET. My old one was an open frame model and was noisy like most of that design type. This new one just amazes me when it's running. You can talk normally around it when it's rolled outside to use. I was able to fit the new model in the old generator box with a few modifications. After installing it and closing it up, I can't hear it at all on the other side of the house. I did the 5 hour break-in using Royal Purple break-in oil. I also purchased a magnetic oil dipstick (GenExhaust Magnetic Dipstick GE-231 for Champion generators) to capture the fine metal particles left from manufacture. There were quite a lot of them on the tip when I changed the break-in oil. Since these motors don't have oil filters, I highly recommend purchasing one. I also changed the spark plug out to an NGK Iridium-IX BPR7EIX, then filled it with Amzoil small engine oil and am now good to go. I am using propane only even though it's dual fuel capable. The only difficulty I found is that there was no easy way to add a battery tender. The unit is pretty well sealed up and you can't just slip a wire into a gap. I ended drilling a hole on the side and installed my own SAE power socket plug (see pic). Champion should have included one on this model. The unit starts easy and runs without a hitch. There has been some controversy about generators that have CO2 modules built in them causing them to shut off at inopportune times when outside. Since mine is a more permanent mount in an outdoor box, I elected to unplug the cable from the CO2 module circuit board, jump the two black wires on the cable plug, and leave it at that. The unit runs fine and now I'm not worrying about it shutting down at the wrong time or shutting down just because the CO2 module has gone bad. I used a generator for years that did not have any modules in the same set up as the new one is in now, so, I don't see any difference. I would say just use common sense in what would work best in your situation. To sum this up, I am quite pleased with this Champion generator and highly recommend it to anyone looking in this wattage range.
