I have to assume this is a good book as it was for my grandson and he seems to like it. I looked at a few pages as it was as clear as a mud wrestler’s jock strap! Oh to be young and intelligent! I wish.

I like how it takes you step by step from the design of the game til building itSome cool things I read in this book that are in the new versions of unity: prefab variants, Shader Graph, Vfx Graph, Cinemachine and Universal render pipelineIt’s a great book for beginners and also for experienced users who will find good explanations of how things work internally like for example the shader pipeline. It is well written and very easy to follow. I highly recommend it.

Nicolas really is an expert on Unity and he has created a book which covers every single aspect to give you an idea of the process from start to finish. He explains things well and makes it really good fun to progress through the book, seeing what you have developed or learnt. My suggestion to make even better would be to add a simple movable game object further forward in the book so as you go on building the game you can see it through the eyes of a player, also some of the darker screenshots didn't come out too clearly. But overall a great book.

This book takes you from start to finish making a very basic FPS Game. It is a very practical book in nature so it can be a bit overwhelming when you are an absolut beginner with no coding experience what so ever. That being said the autor tries to convey the concepts in a understandable and lean way and cut away all the fat that most books carry. i really liked it and worked all the way through without any problems.

My main critic the visibility of the screenshots. The scripts are captured in dark mode which makes is tough to read since the whole book is not color printed. This also makes the terrain and shader section pretty much text only, so the website becomes a necessity for these parts.Otherwise the book is very detailed. Full color for future editions please!

Good content poor print quality First up, you can probably find all the content in this book on the internet; the book does have a good end-to-end example of making a game from scratch and takes you through the basics. The book also goes through the concepts of shaders and the universal render pipeline, including when and where you would use some of the more advanced features.Ok, so why the 1-star review. Well, it comes down to the quality of the print. The book uses pictures rather than a textual description of the options and switches set (this is good for Unity, where there can be a lot of options to set, and getting one wrong can lead to unexpected outcomes). However, in many cases, the pictures are so blurry that it is impossible to see what values and switches are set. Perhaps using the application in dark mode to take the screenshots was not a good idea as many screenshots are indecipherable.

This book really has the best insights into Unity compared to other books I've read a lot of Unity books, and this one has the best insights into each feature that I've come across. Really helped my understanding of each feature that it covered. This author did a better job explaining everything than what I've read in other Unity books. Really enjoyed what I learned from this book

This book will led you to create your own game I've had a blast reading this book. It has an incredible amount of information and useful screens and tutorials so you can understand every concept and mechanism in Unity. It's great if you are doing your first steps in game design, but it's also very good if you have experience but you are not deeply familiar with the engine.I'm doing my first jrpg thanks to this book and, believe me, if I can do it, you can.

A fundamental guide The book is very detailed building a good base of concepts accompanied by a good illustration and screenshots that if we add the step-by-step explanation makes it accessible and clear for both beginners and more experienced users.I also want to highlight the tour of the latest featured Unity tools, from Visual Scripting, Probuilder among others.Clearly this book is a high recommendation for all those who want to have an excellent base in video game development.

Great book for starters In this book we find basic content to learn how to develop a project from start to finish, following generally clear steps and following different techniques to complete a game, without neglecting basic concepts of optimization, videogame design and even project launch. The introduction to the visual scripting system is an interesting way to reach the public that is not quitefamiliar with the basics of scripting and programming. However I would liked the content were morefocus on basic concepts associated with these kind of topics, programming, class and object structures that allow users who are just starting out, familiarize themselves with these concepts without having to follow a structure of mechanics previously defined by the author.Nevertheless i believe that the issues it addresses, generate that the basic concepts associated with Unity are understood, with simple language and with images that help to comprehend the topic it addresses.I look forward for the second part of this book with slightly more advanced topics.

Great resource to get started, some errors that are super annoying Great resource for getting started with Unity game development - but some errors/missing information added a bit of headache in Part 3 doing the C# scriptingFor example, tells you to create public Class EnemiesManager script, but then references it as EnemyManager in examples, will not work unless you realize this and match the name(s) appropriately.Another example (page 483) does NOT tell you that in order to use UnityEvents you have to add the usingUnityEngine.Events at the top (using statement for the UnityEngine.Events namespace)Obviously, I could be missing something, but I checked and rechecked currently and had to Google for examples/fixes.I've worked in IT and software companies for 20+ years, number one issue with documentation for technical processes... is that it doesn't exist or isn't update to date (lol)... issue number two is assumed knowledge gaps, thus skipping important details like the above.

An amazing book, but best enjoyed as a second book on Unity Buy this book; it’s a fantastic reference for refining a prototype. Its biggest flaw is it’s a bit ambitious for an absolute beginner. There are enough changes to Unity outside the control of the author that it could lead to some rage quitting once you hit some of these unforeseen snags (normal maps set to -1 on the some of the downloaded assets almost did me in during the lighting chapter). If you are new to Unity you might want to make this the 2nd book to read and instead pick up one of the numerous books that has you create a capsule running around on a plane shooting projectiles at enemy capsules. You’ll finish that book and wonder what to do with that plane and those capsules and the Unity version or downloaded assets won’t be an issue. That’s where this book comes in; methodically replacing those primitives with more refined game components. Although each chapter isn’t able to go super deep, it provides enough breadcrumbs and context to be able to focus on areas that captivate your interest. It’s really easy to put this book down for a week at a time and just play with animations or lighting or building terrain and then just pick it up and focus on the next piece of the puzzle. Highly recommended.
