We've been using Reolink cameras in our primary home for years now. The app is well organized and they do a good job of making it easy to find specific cases of different types of triggers (Person, animal, vehicle or even just motion). But more than anything, I really like this camera for the wide ecosystem. There's lots of different types of cameras for different scenarios and use cases like doorbell and so much flexibility in terms of different power methods. These are one of those "different power methods". The solar panels work exceptionally well. They are able to keep the cameras powered even as we are going through cold weather right now in Feb: unless you are putting this facing a busy sidewalk or constantly checking on the cameras, I think that you'll have no issues with the cameras' battery life. The picture quality is excellent: it's clear in the day and the night vision works really well as well.I don't know how I feel about this station using a microSD as a storage medium. I think it makes sense for these solar cameras as you are not recording 24/7 but I do think that it becomes a limitation for when you eventually want to upgrade your home security though. Between the fact that you don't have any PoE ports on this and 24/7 recording to a SD card is not very economical / bad for the card, it may make more sense to get a full size NVR from the brand unless you're sure you are sure you are happy with wireless cameras without 24/7 recording... and that truly might be enough for many people

I wanted to replace some external battery powered cameras so I ordered these solar ones. They work well once set up but there are a couple of set up and connectivity issues. The cameras are nice and there are several options for mounting them and they can be flipped over so they don't have to hang down from a ceiling. The solar panels are small but surprisingly effective and they keep the cameras charged even on over cast days. We haven’t had a really dark and rainy day but so far the panels have provided more power from a day of charging than the cameras used over a full day and night.Image quality is good and I can see everything clearly on the app. At night it switches to night vision and again the image is very clear and I can see everything going on across my whole yard. There is a spotlight included in the camera and I didn’t even realize that until I let my dog out on the first night and the deck lit up as soon as the camera detected motion.Moving the camera using pan and tilt works well and I’m able to move it around to see different parts of the backyard or tilt down the camera out front to keep an eye on packages that have been delivered. When I first set up the hub I was surprised that it needed to be wired into my home router. I had hoped I’d be able to connect it to the home network using wifi but this doesn't seem to be possible, even after initial setup. It sets up it’s own wifi for the cameras and perhaps this stops it from connecting to a different wifi. Fortunately I have a mesh network and those hubs have Ethernet ports in them so I am able to wire the camera hub to one of those mesh hubs in a more hidden spot than directly to my home router.Setting up in the app was also a little tricky. Nothing awful, just not as smooth as other camera systems I’ve used. It took a couple of attempts to do some steps. When I’m away from home I’ve noticed that the camera takes two attempts to connect. The app warns me that it will use cell data and this seems to stop the connection so I have to click on the camera again to connect. At home using wifi it works fine.I’ve had these cameras outside on some cold nights and so far they have coped well.Other than the connection quirks I think these cameras are good. They might be more than I really need but they give me extra security on the front and back of my house.

This Reolink security camera bundle is great for monitoring areas with the convenience of not having to run any wires. The bundle comes with two Argus PT (pan and tilt) rechargeable cameras, two solar panels, a Home hub mini (with 64GB microSD) to which the cameras wirelessly connect and store the footage on, and a selection of mounts and cables for installation.Installation takes a little time but is pretty straightforward. The first step is to download the Reolink app and make an account. From there, you follow the steps to add the Home hub mini to your home network and to your Reolink account, then the cameras so that they are connected to and using the hub. Once everything is up and running, you need to mount your cameras in their desired locations, as long as they are within wireless range of the hub.The bundle comes with a few mounts depending on whether you want to wall mount, ceiling mount, or mount on a pole, etc. There is also an antenna which needs to be screwed on to each camera. The included solar panels are used to keep the cameras charged and need to be placed facing the direction which receives the most sunlight. They can be mounted on top of the cameras, but if that is not ideal, there are 10-foot extension cables and mounts included allowing you to place the panels in a different location. The image quality of the cameras is quite good. It’s not 4K and able to get a ton of distant detail from zooming but they are crisp and clear. The framerate isn’t the highest, but that’s fairly typical for security cameras. The pan and tilt functionality of the cameras is excellent, allowing you to remotely view a very wide area and aim the cameras where desired. The app has a lot of functionality and settings allowing you to customize notifications, image/streaming quality, night vision modes, detections, zones, event summaries, view and save footage, etc.In case it isn’t known, it is important to note that these cameras are motion-based and do not record 24/7. They start recording automatically for a set length of time when they detect applicable motion and can send notifications when that happens. An excellent aspect about this camera bundle and what attracted me to it is that it uses its own hub to connect to the cameras and store the footage on. Many other battery-operated systems require paying a subscription to store footage in the cloud, or store footage on the cameras themselves, which could be easily stolen or damaged. This camera bundle instead uses its hub to create its own Wi-Fi network connection to the cameras, which minimizes your own network/internet usage to just when you view footage remotely or get notifications. This also allows the cameras to still record and save footage even if your internet is down. More importantly, the footage is stored safely on the hub in your home without paying any additional fees or having to upload it anywhere.I haven’t yet had the setup long enough to comment on long-term stability and battery life, but so far, so good. I will try to update this should significant flaws become apparent. So far I am happy with the setup and would recommend it to those looking for a convenient way to add monitoring to an area without wiring up cameras or paying subscription fees.

My unboxing impression was very good. Overall, the package is impressive. Nothing looks or feels cheaply made - everything is clearly high quality. There are 4 boxes of components & hardware in the main box. The boxes were mostly organized by function. For example, one box has all the mounting brackets and other mounting hardware. So a big thumbs up for how organized the packaging is, which makes the overwhelming task of figuring everything out much easier. This system, in my opinion, is the best of all worlds for easy installation, and for security of the data.- Solar chargers for internal camera batteries means no need to run power cables.- Wireless data to a hub means no need to run video cables- Wireless data to a hub means the data is secure in the locked house so even if the cameras are disabled, destroyed, or stolen the data is still in the hub.And all of that without paying for cloud storage - pay once for equipment and no more fees - fantastic! The system expandability is great:- comes with 2 cameras, expandable to 8 cameras- comes with 64GB SD card, expandable to 1TBThe installation instructions are very good. There are 12 pages dedicated to proper placement and installation. So many pages on installation because there are 4 mounting options, where each uses different pieces of the supplied hardware. For example, the mounting hardware used is different for on a wall vs on the ceiling / under the roof eave. The instructions are well illustrated with pictures and diagrams that make everything very easy to follow. It is important to not that the installation is not intuitive, so it is important to follow the instructions to ensure the correct mounting hardware is used for your specific placement. It is great that there are so many mounting options AND that they are so thoroughly explained with illustrations.A 64GB SD card is supplied for the Hub. I tested the SD card and in my testing it was about twice as fast as the V30 spec - very nice. Unfortunately 64GB is not much storage for two cameras at 2K resolution. I did not test it but typical 2k video file size means 64GB is only about 10 - 20 hours of video in total depending on the compression (2 cameras x 5 - 10 hours each). After the SD card is full, then the oldest files are overwritten with the new ones. That is not much storage so the SD card is likely the first thing you will want to upgrade which is not cheap for large capacity V30 SD cards, or you could reduce the resolution for smaller file sizes. The system stores the files to MP4 which has great cross-platform compatibility.Specs say -20C to +55C. The camera has moving internal parts for pan and scan so I wonder how they will do in a Canadian -40C (or colder) cold snap, or how they will stand up to multiple winters of being exposed to colder temperatures below the specified temperatures. It is something to be aware of when deciding if this is the right package for you. There is another spec the instructions a silent on. The Cameras and the solar panels are 5V so the cameras can be charged from a 5V wall charger with a USB C connector. It is winter here and I won't be installing the cameras outside until summer. But I did plug the camera in and connect to the Reolink Android App, and got the Hub working. I followed the instructions and it was pretty easy and straightforward.Overall, I love this system to get started:- It is easy to install without fishing wires.- The video data is secure inside in the hub.- No crazy high cloud fees to store data.- Expandable system that can grow as your needs change. If it fits your needs, this a definitely a system you want to consider.

For context, I will start by saying that about 6 months ago, I had an EZVIZ 2K+ 360° View Battery-Powered Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Camera with Solar Panel installed at the front of my house because the wired Lorex outdoor security camera stopped working. I already have 2 other wired indoor EZVIZ cameras so it made sense to add this to my system.Well, two more of my Lorex outdoor security cameras have stopped working. (They owe me nothing, having had them working outdoors for around 10 years.) This was a great opportunity to give the Reolink 5MP 360° Pan Tilt solar security cameras a try and see how they fare vs. the EZVIZ camera. I will caveat to say due to weather, I’ve only been able to test the Reolink cameras indoors (and temporarily outdoors but not yet permanently installed).Overall, I would say the cameras are quite similar, and I am happy with both. Ultimately, the Reolink cameras has a slight edge over the EZVIZ based on the following:Picture quality: Reolink > EZVIZBased on specs, the Reolink offers slightly higher resolution (5 MP) compared to EZVIZ’s the 4MP (2K+). In reality, to my naked eye, I don’t really see a difference but if I zoom in to the picture, then there is a little bit of a difference in Reolink’s favour. Strangely, I think the night vision of the EZVIZ is a little better, though.Smart AI and Security: EqualBoth cameras offer human and vehicle detection. Reolink also has pet detection. I know with the EZVIZ camera, I have the option to turn on an automatic security spotlight to warn anyone that they’re being recorded at night. The Reolink also has motion activated spotlighting for active deterrence as a feature. (--> Equal)Pan / Tilt: Reolink > EZVIZThe Reolink offers slightly greater vertical tilt.Solar panel / battery: EZVIZ > ReolinkBoth cameras come with solar panels for solar charging. In extreme weather like the deep freeze this winter, I have had to change the EZVIZ to battery saver mode because it does not charge in extreme weather to prevent damage to the battery. I was getting worried as battery level was dropping to 20% but luckily it had warmed up a bit and the battery is back to 100%. I haven’t used the Reolink panel outside long enough yet but assume it operates the same way. Ultimately both panels will be continually charged since the panels sit outdoors. For reference though, the EZVIZ has a larger 10,400 mAh battery, compared to Reolink’s 6000mAh.Storage: Reolink > EZVIZ due to home hub miniThe EZVIZ camera has a microSD card slot for local storage up to 512 GB. This has been sufficient as I just let it overwrite old files. I am very interested in the Reolink Home Hub Mini since there are 2 cameras in this set and allows for up to 1TB of centralized storage, although each camera can also hold a microSD card up to 128GB.Connectivity: Reolink > EZVIZThe Reolink wins thanks to dual band wifi connectivity which should be more stable, versus the EZVIZ 2.4 GHz.Apps: Reolink > EZVIZ, once I fiddle around sufficiently with the Reolink app!I have significantly more experience with the EZVIZ app since I started with their wired indoor cameras. It is a very user-friendly and intuitive app. This is actually the hurdle I’m struggling with as I try out the Reolink cameras. I was reluctant to have to download yet another app, but obviously I need it. At the moment, I find the Reolink app to be more complicated than I need it to be! But I know in time, as I get used to it, the Reolink app offers more advanced controls over the EZVIZ app and I believe it can be integrated with other systems.I can’t wait for the weather to warm up and I can get these Reolink cameras permanently installed to truly test both in real life.

Good option for two-station monitoring system I've used several other wireless indoor and outdoor cameras from Reolink and Wyze for the past six years. This system is a decided step in quality and versatility and is reasonably priced for two cameras, two solar panels, and the hub. The hub also allowed me to connect earlier model Argus cameras. The cameras also function in a stand alone mode, though without an SD card slot, there's no provision for saving videos. The hub provides for up to 1 TB of storage for the connected cameras. The app is well designed, but it does take a bit of time to fully understand it, nothing unreasonable. I encountered an issue with the tracking feature not working after connecting the cameras to the hub. I was able to resolve it with help from tech support, which was slowed by communication having to go through email. This is the first "steerable" camera I've used and I'm impressed with that feature. The phone app works well, but I like the desktop interface for the larger screen. Panning and tilting are simple and the mouse wheel allows zooming the image. I'm finding that I like being able to look around outside via the cameras. For instance, we're using one camera to periodically check the Screech Owl box in the woods adjacent to the house to see if the owls have arrived this year and are perched in the opening surveying their surroundings. I very much like the ability to set camera views and move from one to another with just a click. There's a good set of options for defining the area to me monitored for movement. Email notifications triggered by observed movement works well.On live view, the cameras shut down after a few minutes, to conserve battery power. That's only a concern if you want continuous video monitoring, as with an NVR system. It's not an issue with my usage of the system. The Argus PT model is apparently being replaced with the Argus PT Ultra. That system, with greater resolution, is available for a cost increase of about 20%.One small annoyance is the fact that using the PTZ controls to move the camera results in a notification of movement, as if something had moved in the area where the camera is pointed.I've found no significant deficiencies in the system and the good construction quality and weather resistance seem to be on par with other Reolink cameras I've used. The solar panel has kept the camera batteries at 100% charge for the past several days of cloudy weather. This seems to be a good option for a simple two-camera monitoring system at a good price.

Reolink two pack of solar powered Argus PT cameras with a Home Hub Mini First of all, I'm a long-time Reolink customer with 15 different Reolink cameras and an existing Home Hub pro - so I am very familiar with their product line. This is the first battery-powered camera from Reolink I've tried, always having used their wireless and PoE cameras previously. The solar powered Argus PT pro gives you a lot of flexibility where to install since you are limited by where you can run a power (or ethernet) cable. This allows you to place it far out into your yard, rather than somewhere along the edge of your house. Wireless connectivity is good as it supports both 2.4 and 5ghz wireless signals. The camera produced a high-quality image without lag and being able to repoint the camera remote with the pan/tilt/zoom feature is nice. I would have preferred being able to tilt upward more but this can be easily overcome by simply mounting the camera so that it points in a more upward angle. The kit comes with everything needed for multiple mounting options for ceiling, wall or strapped to something like a fence post or even a tree. The reolink clients, available for both desktop and mobile devices (IOS and Android) are excellent - they are easy to use and provide loads of features that make it easy to configure the cameras as well as review saved clips. There are numerous alerting features supporting push notifications and email. In my testing there was not any significant lag from walking across the camera view and when I got the notification on my phone. The 5MP sensor produces excellent picture quality, there are higher resolution cameras available but for general use, 5MP is a good choice. At this price point this two camera combo with the mini home hub is a great value, if you think you might want to expand in the future you might want to consider going with a combo that includes the home hub pro which uses a hard drive rather than sd cards for storage and can support more cameras than the mini.Personally I prefer the ability to view the camera feed constantly which a battery-powered camera cannot do for long so this would be good for someone that occasional viewing and alerting. If you aren't sure how you are going to use the cameras this would be a good starter kit to see how you like it and determine if want to expand with additional battery/solar-powered cameras or switch to wired cameras (either wired powered wireless cameras or power-over-ethernet)Overall Reolink makes a great product with lots of support and a large user community that is available to give tips and advice. Solar-powered cameras represent a compromise, giving you the ability to set this whole system up in minutes with the trade-off that you can't watch the feed constantly and you have to be careful that the solar panel is setup so that it gets enough sun to keep the battery on the Argus PT charged up.At this price point you can't go wrong giving this system a try, its a great value and highly recommended.
